- PP PHF Ian Ash has kindly stepped up as Chairperson of the All American Committee – a big thank you to Ian for picking up the reigns to ensure the event takes place on 16 February 2025 and thank you to Greg Adams for managing the 2024 All American – his assistance and time is appreciated. Tonight is a celebration of youth!!
The Youth Committee is a busy and rewarding committee. We sponsored a participant to RYLA; David Clowes and it was good to see David shine as he progressed through the program.

We were contacted by Mount Waverly Rotary Club – David is a grandson of Ros and Malcolm Clowes. Marcus went to see what was happening and Pres. Kelly and Andrew also attended.
David’s Impressions of RYLA.
I am currently undertaking a Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering, which has been an exciting journey of learning and skill development. Alongside my studies, I enjoy exploring various interests, including learning to play the Cello and the Keyboard.
When I first arrived at RYLA, I didn’t know what to expect and felt a little nervous. However, I found the program to be incredibly rewarding. It challenged me to adjust to the unexpected and highlighted the importance of being flexible in new situations.
The program featured guest speakers who provided valuable insights on leadership and inspiration. It was fascinating to observe the different speaking styles and perspectives they brought to the table. A few of the speakers resonated with me, and I found myself disagreeing with a few others. This experience was a great learning opportunity, as it made me reflect on why I agreed with some views and not others.
RYLA also served as a fantastic opportunity to connect with many like-minded individuals who were eager to support one another throughout the program. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of Emerald for sponsoring me in this amazing experience!

EarlyAct
This is our first EarlyAct and we are delighted it is associated with Emerald Primary School.
Other PS in the area are looking at setting up an EarlyAct as it has been such a success.
Presentations from the children:
Hi my name is Caidan and as you know, I am the president of EarlyAct.
This year is the first year Emerald Primary School has had an active team. But this hasn’t stopped us from doing great things such as the Wheelchairs for Kids project where all proceeds went to kids in third world who can’t afford wheelchairs for themselves.
Next we collected cans from kids at our schools which not only raised money for drink taps on the oval but stops kids from littering and stops the cans from ending up in the ocean and killing precious fish.
Our school fair is coming up and we are raising money for UNICEF. If you don’t know UNICEF it is an organisation that stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund which is been active for 77 years.
It is responsible for humanitarian and developmental aid for children worldwide. The activities in UNICEF's agenda include providing immunisation and disease prevention, food services, education, emergency relief, and healthcare to children and mothers in developing countries.
Lastly, our environmental team hatched a plan to put a plant in every classroom when its ready to then put it in our school garden.

My name is D’Art and I am the International Leader of EarlyAct. On 19 September we held a fundraiser that raised $4,146.34 through our Wheel-a-thon which will purchase 17 wheelchairs.
It was really fund but had some obstacles. About 5 minutes into the event students realised it was hard having a wheelchair in many ways like getting up hills was hard – it takes all your might and the world is not planned for wheelchairs – you cant use stairs or go on rocks and you always have to go the long way around.
The winning class was class 6W and Ruby Ibbston as the highest fundraiser.
Kerith Cummin presented certificates for the Wheelchair fundraising to the EarlyAct Representatives and to Principle and Rotary Member, PP PHF DGN Emma Clark

Other note from Chairperson Marcus
Marcus caught up with Colin Brown’s daughters and reported they are encouraging him to remain as a member but as he has health issues, it is confronting for him to come however, they are hoping he will attend some meetings.
At a business meeting Audiologist – Khatija spoke about Lorna and John and the testimonial – it was appreciated by Khatija and thank you for the support of her event in Emerald.
Kris provided insight into a family of 3 children each with a KFRWPB fundraisisng page and between them they have raised over $450 so far. Kris emailed to thank the mother for her support and learnt one of the children has a rare autoimmune disease and Monash Children's has been a fantastic support to the family through their medical journey - there are some special stories behind the fundraising pages each year.
Marcus mentioned we are looking at getting EarlyAct members involved in the KFRWPB and they will find out more later.
