Hi everyone

Who would believe it?  4 hours’ notice and we are back in 7 days lockdown, so for the next meeting we will be back to ZOOM. Thank goodness we managed to get one live meeting in at The Paradise – we just had the dilemma of how many of us could attend based on COVID limitations in a venue. Poor Chris Adams missed out attending – who would have thought that apart from the Guest Speaker we would have 3 guests – Tracy Bannister, Emerald Opticians, Abdul Halabi, husband of Khatija the Berwick audiologist and Tim a friend of Catherine.  All have indicated that they will attend another meeting and Tim volunteered to help out at Saturday’s T2T Market, which sadly has had to be cancelled.

I have shared a You Tube video  – Ballard of Locky D – hope you enjoy it.

How good was our guest speaker Justin Barrot!  His journey to becoming Principal Agent in Control of Barry Plant Emerald was an interesting and sheer determination one. And we thought that John Henderson could talk under water – well here was his match. Also, not only did Justin donate a bottle to help our fundraising but he auctioned it off in true real estate style – I sat on my hands just in case.
Feedback from Don regarding our Hybrid meetings is that we have really improved.  The extra laptop that John Shaw set up allows those members unable to attend, to see the rest of the room and feel more involved. John is looking at a few other enhancements that should further improve the experience. Speakers do need to talk directly into the microphone at all times.

Following your feedback members were requested to sit at the tables that matched the colour of their meal discs. We still ended up with married couples together future seating will be along a different criteria. It does take us out of our comfort zone but you never know – you might enjoy sitting next to someone you don’t normally mix with and considering we are such an outgoing group of people it shouldn’t be that hard.

Thank you, those members who are continuing to provide suggestions.  John Ritchie has been great over the last few weeks sharing his wealth of knowledge gained over the years he has been with the Club. At the end of the day, it is all about teamwork and communications.

On the subject of communications, you should now have received your Precis of the last Board meeting from secretary John Shaw and the 2nd monthly issue of DG’s District 9810 Changemaker newsletter.  Ros did hope that our article on the Puffing Billy R100 celebrations would appear in the August issue of Rotary Down Under as she was promised it would be in either August or September’s issue -we just have to wait another month.

To assist the Hills Storm Relief, The Rotary Club of Chadstone East Melbourne have joined together with Malvern Probus to donate 3 x $100 Bunnings vouchers to each of the 3 clubs in our Cluster. Our community team will confer re the allocation of ours and the other 2 clubs will find worthy causes also. Once our cards are allocated, we will send a thank you letter. DG Daryl has scheduled his first meeting with the Clubs being tasked with the distribution of the RAWCS Fund currently in excess of $80,000 on 15th August. This is to provide us with a chance to talk about issues being faced in the Hills and to ascertain how the clubs in the rest of the district can provide us with support.

Next week Russell Marnock will talk to us about Sustainability and the Environment – remember to have your power bill with you or work out in advance your average kWh.

See you Tuesday on ZOOM!

Yours in Rotary
