Hi everyone
Seems life is never dull when you belong to Rotary. Yet another opportunity has come along to allow members to raise funds and attend a few concerts at no cost.  Via the Belgrave Club, the Cluster clubs are getting together to provide “person power” at 5 Rochford Winery Concerts commencing in a couple of weeks-time on Sunday 28th November. I am close to completing my RSA (responsible serving of alcohol) course with just the last couple of units to be undertaken – then there is the evaluation to come through and hopefully I will have my certificate by this time next week. There is a lot more to the industry than I ever realised and I have a new respect for bar staff.
 
District has offered grants to the clubs to ensure that we can operate a proficient Hybrid zoom set up. As we have already been running the hybrid system - be it cobbled together with our own personal items, we don’t qualify for the full $800 grant however I have applied (please note I was the first person to register at 4pm last Sunday) for $400 which will not fully cover the items we need however will go a good way to ensuring that the Club does have its own equipment (f we get the grant) It will also mean that John Shaw does not have to return home for a HDMI lead.
 
Tuesday’s meeting was an Assembly night with the committees working together.  It was nice that Catherine’s daughter Jess and her friend Emily were comfortable joining “oldies” and her neighbour Carol Cain attended again plus following a meeting with Ken, Wil Cornelissen from Waverley Rotary stayed on for our meeting.
 
Information on members - Roy’s wife Ali was admitted to hospital emergency last Sunday and by the end of the evening she had her appendix removed.  She was back home on Tuesday afternoon feeling very sore.  We wish her a speedy recovery. As we do for Lyn Beckwith too, she is still recovering from her tonsil’s operation. Tom is now allowed out with another person providing the Care Home has 2 hours’ notice.
 
Next week our guest speaker is Lynne Trensky from Eastern Dandenong Ranges Association. Sangeeta is talking about “Where she is from” and past members Peter Hadwen and Martin Buonicristiani are attending.  We will look forward to seeing them again.
 
We are hoping for good weather this Saturday for the Fundraising Sausage sizzle outside Emerald Butchers.  As ever Alan is generously donating the sausages.  Whilst this is never a major money spinner it does generate additional funds and allows the members to mix with the Community and each other. 
 
And it won’t be long before we are running our Trash 2 Treasure market on Saturday 11th December.  Catherine, Emma and team are working hard in the background to ensure that it will be successful. The additional COVID and Insurance guidelines are a challenge.  It is hoped that the traders are now already used to the additional requirements however it does rule out the one of traders wanting to offload a car boot full of goodies.
 
Following the T2T on Tuesday 14th December will be the Christmas party at The Independent, Gembrook.  Belgrave and Monbulk members have been invited to join us. Kelly is working on a fun program.

  • Cluster meetings – storm recovery via RAWCS – meeting of Rescue our Logs Committee – main project of choice – logs fallen in the storm and re-purpose them Emma will circulate Purpose Memorial Park telling story of the storm, reflection space and play area – all of good will hard to find foothold to spend money.Need to wait til logs have 12% moisture.Mini fundraising project on side for other purposes as well.Picture story book for children = story of storm and how Mother Nature works = story book for fundraising

  • Allen from the Men’s Shed.Allen was approached by PS (Nathan) to build tables and chairs so children could sit outside to do lessons.Tina needs some front gates built – she will ask Alan to build and pay for the timber for the gates.Money will be used to help the PS.… if you want something built, go to the Men’s Shed.

When a local service club, a local business, a local community house and local residents join forces, wonderful things happen!
 
Thanks to the generosity of the people of Emerald and surrounds, a financial contribution from Woolworths in Emerald, and the efforts of the Rotary Club of Emerald and District and Emerald Community House, local residents doing it tough will benefit from the distribution of more than 200 donated food items.
 
President of the Rotary Club of Emerald and District Shalini Penny said people of the Hills’ community are renowned for working together for the benefit of all.
 
“Our community has banded together after fires and storms, and throughout the pandemic. That same unwavering community spirit has come to the fore again with our Rotary club partnering with Emerald Woolworths and Emerald Community House to distribute food donated by members of the community to those in need,” Shalini said.
 
“Many of the food items were donated by shoppers who placed them into a dedicated ‘Rotary trolley’ set up at the front of the store in the first week of November. Additional food items were also selected by our Rotary Club with a $250 donation from Woolies.
 
“We thank the people of the Emerald and surrounds for contributing to the initiative, and to Woolies for their support.”
