WOW!!  What else can you say!!??  What a fantastic night we had last Tuesday when Medieval Madness took over our Club Changeover!!  Thank you to everyone who donned chain-mail; crowns; helmets; fire-breathing dragon heads! We had maidens; queens and knights; Robin Hood; The Hunchback; Friar Tuck - even The Executioner made an entrance!   Lol!  So many fabulous costumes and subtle touches really made the night, so thank you all!  The DG, Shia Smart, didn’t stop smiling the whole night and our other esteemed guests thought it was FAB!

I’m bound to forget to thank all the people all of the time, but I would like to make a special mention to Chris & Gayle Barrot who constructed a working guillotine and photo booth especially for the night!  It created a great backdrop for photos and a bit of fun to “behead” the outgoing President, Ian Ash!!

John Koenders set up his professional camera and lighting rig upstairs and there are some great photos online of people taking selfies and having a laugh!  Be sure to check out the photos on line… go to the club website www.emeraldrotary.org.au and then look for the photo album named Changeover 2019.

Entertainment was provided by the ever-talented Spangles!!  They performed a farewell song for Ian Ash, focusing on his reputation of falling asleep in meetings; also a lovely rendition of “My Girl/Catherine!” Emma took centre stage begging us for “Mercy” too!  Just a reminder that the Spangles are available for your next function, at very reasonable rates!!  :)

Elizabeth Sutherland provided some calm, atmospheric music on her harp - a balance to our mayhem!  Lol!  Delicious dinner and good company made for a very enjoyable evening.

For everyone who couldn’t be there for various reasons, I’m very sorry that you missed it, however the photos and anecdotes will no doubt fill you in!  And besides…there’s always next year!  Lol!

This week is our first gathering for Committee Meetings.  A chance to chat and plan a few ideas for the coming year.  The meeting will be followed by our first Board Meeting for this 2019-2020 year, so hopefully your committee will come up with some great plans to present to The Board!  Let’s get this year going!!

As for this week’s Conundrum, thank you for asking, here it is!

“How far can a dog run into the woods?”

A little something to ponder and the answer will be hidden elsewhere in the Sparkle.

Thank you all and have a great week!

See you round like a Rotary Wheel,
Catherine xxx
Last Week's Meeting
Changeover!

A great evening of fun and laughter amid the serious business of handing over the chain of office from now Past President Ian Ash to President Catherine Elfick all with the overlay of medieval splendour - we had to have have the best fun at changeover this year in the District!!!

There was a beheading of PP Ian, Sangeeta received the Horses Ass award for her wonderful relationship building at the Kids Fun Run With Thomas and of course, the evening would not have been complete without the Spangles!

We were delighted to have District Governor Shia Smart attend as well as Past District Governor Russell Guerney and wife Shelley.  Our AG Brian Hogdson attended as did past AG Graeme Aspinall.

Of course it was all the Rotarians that made the evening special - good luck, Catherine for the year ahead.

There are too many funny images to add here, but if you go to the website you can see them all or download the higher resolution originals HERE.

Advance Australia Fair

Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free;

We've golden soil and wealth for toil; Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.

Conundrum Answer:

“Halfway.  Since we have no idea how large the woods are, the distance in actual measurement becomes irrelevant.  At the halfway point the dog will be running OUT of the woods!"
