Hi everyone

Well, how adaptable have our members become!  Hit with yet another Lockdown, we swing straight back into ZOOM meetings and not only that, juggle the Guest Speakers to ensure that we present ones who are better in a live situation that way. Kate Forster and Claude Cullino from “Meander” gave an interesting talk about the Restoration and Conservation project at Telopea Steps.  This linked in nicely with our new Area of Focus “Sustainability & the Environment”, which Russell Marnock is Committee Chair for. Russell will be talking to the Club about this new portfolio on 10^th August. In preparation he has asked that you look at your power bills to establish the kilowatt per hour rate and then a comparison can be made – as Russell says normally Portfolios look at drawing on Club funds however he is looking at saving us money.

 

The latest information on Tom is that he has been moved to the Rehab ward at William Angliss.  The stroke has badly affected his movement and he is in a confused state. He will be assessed in two weeks-time.  Lockdown means no visitors, not even family. Thank you to Lyn Beckwith who is obtaining regular updates. Thank you also to Kris Ash who has produced a series of photographs and the moving video we viewed on Tuesday – these have been sent to Deb.

Fees for 2021 – 2022.  The budget was supplied ahead of Tuesday’s meeting and members were advised that Russ Nielsen had proposed that the Board review “apportioning Insurance against specific events and not be a cost to members”.  This was thought a good idea. If we can run some events this year, we will collect a small percentage that can allow for a discount next year. We have looked at the costs for the year and removed or reduced items that we don’t consider chargeable. So instead of increasing the fees this year we have reduced them. The Motion “That the fees as presented are accepted for 2021-2022” was proposed and voted upon unanimously. Motion passed. Treasurer Sangeeta will be sending out invoices in the coming days.

 

I am liaising with the Cluster Clubs, in particular Gus Rozycki from Belgrave.  Gus is organising a trip to a “Gift Girl and Mancave Expose” on Wednesday 6^th October 6pm – 8pm at Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre, Cnr Matthew Flinders Av and Heatherton Rd, Endeavour Hills. So put the date in your diary.

You should already have a diary entry for The Primary School Speech Contest that Gloria and Lyn are organising.  This is being held at Macclesfield PS on 24^th August.

 

I am continuing to work on how we can retain members and the allocation of roles to all to allow for everyone to feel included and valued.  Feedback at Tuesday’s meeting was:

Obviously, these things take time to implement and we need to be out of Lockdown to move forward.
