Hita Mistry  Clinical and Forensic Psychologist

Hita is the Principal Clinical & Forensic Psychologist and has been practicing for over 18 years with many people in a variety of contexts. She is dedicated to providing specialist care to patients and values a client-centered approach to assessment and treatment. Hita has been trained in a number of therapies and is experienced in treating a range of mental disorders both individually and in group contexts. Hita specialises in the assessment and treatment of complex presentations including personality disorder and trauma. She is trained in EMDR and uses a range of techniques and theoretical frameworks to help clients with long-standing psychological issues. Hita provides supervision to Provisional Psychologists and Clinical and Forensic Psychology Registrars. She also delivers training workshops, seminars and conferences both nationally and internationally.

Hita is a fully registered Psychologist and Supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia and is a member of the Clinical and Forensic Colleges with the Australian Psychological Society. Hita has worked with clients both in the UK and Australia and is an Associate Fellow and Chartered Forensic Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.

• 8 yrs ago moved to Emerald from city – community based service for local people here

• Treatment usually 1-1
• Good working relationship with other allied health providers – for example chronic pain
• Hike therapy – whilst walking in the forest – or those who cant sit face to face
• Placement location for Swinburne and Uni Melbourne
• Forensic consultancy too with offenders in the prison system and in the community
• Referrals from local GPs – holistic, integrated treatment plans
• People have a mental health care plan- 10 session increased to 20 due to COVID
• TAC and Workcover and NDIS registered

• Initially reduction in referrals
• Recently unprecedented referrals and other practices are experiencing the same
• Stress and strain on mental health
• Range of complex issues, stress, financial, partnership combinations
• If trauma and then COVID and concerns about death
• Masks have caused issues for some people
• Lack of social connectedness – reaching out to usual social supports
• Leading to increase of family violence
• Increase drug and alcohol use
• Now faced with increased demand – no increase of supply – additional sessions have been created and there is a real problem
• Being created to see how to provide service in best way possible including tele-health from other states

Know Your Rotarian – Don Borg

• Don was born in Malta the 6^th child of 9
• Don’s dad was a market gardener in Malta
• Decided to come to Australia with Don’s mum who was 38 yrs of age with 8 children
• Don jumped to grade 2 when he arrived and left school at 15
• He started work at the Commonwealth Bank but left after 2 or so years
• For a a while he sold encyclopedias but wasn’t overly successful and decided to help someone from his boxing club out with plastering
• He loved it and soon got a job where he could be properly trained
• He gained great satisfaction in helping someone’s dream home come to fruition
• In 1978 he purchased his first home in Emerald – 8 squares which he later expanded
• His big break came when he was recommended to Avonwood Homes – his business grew to over 50 staff
• Don retired at 10 years ago and enjoys living in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula
