Roy mentioned on behalf of the club it is with a great deal of pride and pleasure that we have supported them a little on the way to covering the expenses that can be horrendous as you study. The girls were invited to drop in and say hi as the McLeod Murphy Award is very important to us all.
He wished the girls the very best in their studies and future professions.
Roy also provided a great precis of the work of Dr Ian McLeod Murphy during his time here in the hills.
Toast to the Elderly - PP PHF John Ritchie
Micheline Farnell
I was born in Bunbury Western Australia on the 13th of June 1956 and eventually moved and started my schooling up here in Emerald. I would catch a taxi to school but in 1962 coming home from school one day I was struck by a car which led me to having a brain injury.
This didn’t stop me from living. I have fond memories of helping my mother in the kitchen and my dad in the garden. I have a younger sister Gail who lives in QLD now and visits when she can. I was a member of Yooralla which led me to continue being social and learning new skills.
I think I have a lovely smile and I’m very kind. I have a very caring nature and always dreamt of being a nurse.
I moved into Emerald Glades with my parents but they have both since past. I am very lucky to have an NDIS worker Ana come in and see me three times a week. She is not just a carer but my friend. Together we go out shopping and to cafes. Recently it was my birthday and Ana is taking me to the ballet. I absolutely adore the ballet. I have such fond memories when my dad took me to see Swan Lake when I was a little girl.
I am a very social lady and like all ladies, I like to look nice and enjoy a good manicure. Colouring therapy relaxes me. I’ll take part in all activities and I’ll have a go at anything and not allow my disabilities to get in the way of trying.
