Last Week's Meeting
International Chair PP PHF Ian Ash presented Sue Gregory a cheque for $1000 for the Australian Himalayan Foundation.
Sue provided insights as follows about the AHF
- The Australian Himalayan Foundation is only one of 2 International Non-Government Organisations implementing programs in Nepal.
- There are 3 aspects of work covering Ladakh, Nepal and Bhutan these are Education, Health and Environment/Sustainability
- In Nepal suicide, domestic violence and mental health issues are all on the rise
- Recently the AHF has provided a new health post with classrooms and vocational training in Waco in E. Nepal
- Now working on disadvantaged areas in the west of Nepal
- Rotary has asked that their money goes towards education
- The aim is to educate teachers to teach the teachers so there is self-sustainability
- There has recently been 5000 scholarships to allow disadvantaged children go to school
- It costs $250 to support a child for a year in school
- COVID lockdown lead to the first School of the Air over the airwaves, around 11,500 listened in to their lessons
Fundraising ideas
- 20 yrs anniversary of the AHF - $20 per month to provide school bags, uniforms etc for the children
- School linking between schools in Australia and Nepal
Diary Dates
- 29 May – the date to celebrate the first ascent of Everest by – Australia’s biggest curry night happening this year on that date
- Everest and Neverest challenges with teams running the height of Everest
- Ed’s Backyard tour of NZ in Sept with Peter Hillary
- Fundraising treks in the Snowy Mountains/Blue Mountains and even Ladakh

- Market is coming along for 9 April – it is the Easter market with an Easter Bunny visiting
- Thank you to everyone who is assisting with the School Fair- some more help would be appreciated
- We will be providing Easter gifts for The Glades
- Flood Appeal – we will be in contact with a RC in QLD
RAMS – PP PHF Gloria Hargreaves
- Gloria reminded us about the Walk for Solidarity and if you would like to run / walk to support RAMS she would be delighted with the support

- Mentioned that Greg Adams has been able to send $3000 to the Tenderfoot School in Kenya
- Russ Marnock gave us an update on the school in East Timor where we supported the building of a toilet block

Thanked the club for their enthusiasm and fun at the Conference, he has had lots of messages saying what an impact we made and how we added a vibe to the event. Looking forward to District Changeover and the District Conference next year which will cost $295 for the Conference and the gala dinner at Parliament House.
