On Wednesday this week I attended a Rotary-led workshop for the “Support for Vulnerable and Educationally Disadvantaged Adult Learners” at the Monash Enterprise Centre in Mulgrave.  It was a joint initiative coordinated by David Alexander between Rotary (fits under the “Education and Literacy” banner of the six focus areas) and Living Learning Organisations in District 9810 and essentially sought to see if there were ways in which Rotary might be able to assist these under-resourced organisations that do such tremendous work.  David had invited me as there is an LLO in Selby with a recently appointed new Manager and also a branch in Cockatoo.  The workshop showed that there were many areas we could assist (e.g. marketing, assistance with improving literacy especially of men over 45 (we have a few teachers), business and IT training etc) and for me this is where Rotary can make a significant local community impact.  I expect to hear more about this over the coming weeks, so if you are interested in providing assistance or finding out more, please let me know.

 

Peter Brock will be making his way over to the 2019 Rotary Convention in Hamburg, Germany this week and we wish him safe travels.  It is the first time Peter and his family have been to Germany and he has a number of trips planned including the Rhine and other places in Europe.  We look forward to hearing about his adventures upon his return.
