G’day everyone and welcome to another conundrum filled Rotary week!!
Last week saw the Club split in two, with a few members meeting the Rotary International President, Mark Maloney and his wife, Gay, at a dinner in Ballarat. It was a really lovely evening with good company, good food and good fellowship. Mark was a very good speaker and his year of RI President seems to be a whirl of travel from one country to another! (Oh look, it’s Tuesday! Must be Australia!) His speech had a lot of humour and cultural nuances, including the friendly rival between Sydney and Melbourne. Not bad considering he had literally only just arrived from “across the ditch,” as he put it, hours beforehand.
As mentioned in last week’s Sparkle, through the website www.rotary.org you can learn more about our International President and his vision for this Rotary year. He wants Rotary clubs to “…foster a culture where Rotary does not compete with the family, but rather complements it,” and to be “…realistic in our expectations, considerate in our scheduling, and welcoming of children at Rotary events on every level.” I’d like to encourage you to read it, if you haven’t already. :)
I wonder what the rest of y’all got up to?! I look forward to hearing all about it.
UPDATE on TOM!
Last week we heard the shock that Tom Watson had suffered a stroke which saw him weakened down his right side, jumbled speech and a bit of general confusion. I am so delighted to report that he is back home and pretty much back to normal! Thanks to his granddaughter, Jacqui, and her ringing the ambulance; the speed in which it arrived (about 10 minutes apparently) and the fantastic work of the team at Monash Clayton, the clot was able to be removed quickly and the apparent damage was minimised considerably. We might even be lucky enough to be graced by his appearance at this week’s meeting, depending on how he feels of course. It’ll be wonderful to see his smiling face again soon!

Susi is seeking only 2 volunteers once a month to help out at the Dig In Cafe in Emerald. This is a great opportunity for Rotary to be seen out and about in the Community, without too much effort on our part! ;) No cooking involved; just help serve, chat with the diners - many familiar faces - and a bit of a clean up at the end. Please pop your name down to help out and wear your Rotary shirt with pride!! :D

Hard Pyle was washing windows on a high-rise office building when he slipped and fell off a sixty foot ladder onto the concrete footpath below. Incredibly, he did not injure himself in any way. How was this possible??
