After missing two years due to COVID, the 6th PS Speech Contest Final was held on Tuesday the 30th August
The Planning Team, Lyn, Vicki and I were very grateful to the staff of Macclesfield Primary School who contributed to the success of the evening by generously giving us ready access to all their facilities and helping us to prepare for the event during set-up.
This worthwhile Rotary Program is aimed at helping the development of public speaking skills in the upper Primary years.
The 11 students who won their public speaking heats within their own school thereby earning a place in the Final, had 3 minutes to present their speeches on a predetermined topic. All did a wonderful job in both the research and presentation of their speeches.
The Judges Judith, Roger, Henk (from Toastmasters) and our Lorna must have found it difficult to award the three place getters. The winners were:
1st – Tom Ferrier from Macclesfield PS who received a framed Certificate, a $60 book voucher and a personal engraved trophy. (Macclesfield as the winning school also receives an engraved trophy)
2nd – Poppy Sanderson from Selby PS who received a framed Certificate and a $40 book voucher
3rd – Matilda Child from Gembrook PS who received a framed Certificate and a $25 book voucher
The great success of the Final was due to the efforts of many.
Lyn, Vicki and I would like to specially mention:
Marcus as MC and sharing this role with Marlene Sinclair who was the MC from Toastmasters, DG Ken who spoke of Rotary’s Youth Programs, John Henderson who promoted the KFRWT and Lorna who was a member of the judging panel.
We would also like to sincerely thank Kris our photographer, John S, John H, Ian W, and Don for braving the elements as the parking officials, Emma for providing the cups and saucers and Tina for presenting the gifts to the Judges.
Thanks also goes to all the other Rotarians present who not only provided supper but also willingly assisted with numerous jobs required on the night.
Lyn, Vicki and Gloria
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
What a great night at the PSSC last Tuesday - As Youth Chair, I wanted to congratulate, the main committee, Lyn, Gloria and Vicki on organising this really important event, that show cases the Rotary Club of Emerald and District and gives us some presence in our community.
From my perspective, it was wonderful to be able to meet up with the Principals of the schools that we support in the district. Thank you everyone for supporting this event - and in particular the organising committee. Well done.

WE NEED YOU!! Please consider supporting the Market fundraising initiative by setting up a stall to sell your trash and treasure. We need volume on the oval - now is the time to take action to support those working so hard to get this regular income stream for the club off the ground.
If you don't feel able to have a stall, why not bring your knives, scissors and tools to the market to get them sharpened by the pop-up blade sharpening stall - we also need foot traffic on the day for the stall holders who are attending each month and supporting us.
