• Wanted to share reasons for making yearly donation – not a fortune recognition of donations each hear
• Rotary Foundation is a major source of funds to help people all over the world
• In this club and other clubs by donating to Rotary Foundation is just buying a PHF, purely and simply because donating to Foundation
• Russell Marnock has a shirtful of these awards – but having a PHF nominated by the club meant more than receiving it for a donation, more than just for the funds
• Rotary Foundation aware of where money is going
• After 3 yrs half of donation back to District for work in the local area
• Made RF Foundation of choice – donates to PH Society and Centurian Awards
• There are a lot of Centurians in the club
• Club is sitting just a little over $7k to RF

Guest Speaker Ben Owen from Emerald SES

• We have new facilities in the centre of Emerald
• 50 members
• Designed for 80-100 members
• Need a code red crew in situ on those high fire days
• 90% response – tree falling down – priority closing road off
• Jaws of life – since the guard rails less really bad accidents makes the road safer
• Need to be out of the door in 8 minutes and in the truck – reliant on Emerald people to get out of bed and on the road quickly
• All mod cons to get out quickly
• Treatment to patient is important
• More and more called to help ambulance crew where too far away from an ambulance – have a mule to carry people out of paddocks
• Help with searches – eg Mt Disappointment Search for young lad
• Volunteering youngest – daughter 15 other end is keep on books if can contribute
• Members in orange are response people – OH&S etc and know how truck operates then on to crew member, first aid courses etc etc.
• Funding – thank you for the kind donation $16,000 for training and equipment
• $30k from the Vic Gov each year
• Half money needed to operate – fuel, meals, coffee equipment etc
• $$ needed for vehicles 2 trucks and 2 4WD – one truck from Vic Gov others need to raise money.$250k out of pocket for a truck.
• Current projects – wanting a 3^rd truck now has storage space and people to man it.
• Automated generator turns on in 10 seconds if a power cut
• Meeting at the station on a Tuesday night – let’s arrange it!!
• Own house pine tree fell on the house, all walked away from it, but concern about the wind remains with some family members
• Thank you for Rotary support over many many years.

• Speech Contest – will have more information at the end of June Lyn and Vicki to Macclesfield PS to ensure meets requirements of contest, went well.
• WWC Card for attending on the night

• Partners picking up suits and how to put them together this Thursday
• Practice next Thursday and 11 June will be the day!!
• 35 partners at the event

Vicki - Mayor Reception Report

The Mayor’s  Reception provides the opportunity to celebrate with local volunteers and formally acknowledge our contributions to our community for National Volunteer Week (16-22 May). I represented the Club at this dinner on Thursday 19^th of May at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Pakenham. Presided over by Mayor Jeff Springfield, it was a very enjoyable night, and I met and spoke to other volunteers on our table from Berwick, Pakenham and elsewhere.

 

The Stan Henwood Award honours lifetime achievements in community service and volunteering and there were 6 very worthy nominees. Tim Ahern, who has been actively volunteering in the community since 1965, received the award this year.

 

This reception is an annual free event, and  I encourage other members to attend in future years
