Well done to KFRWT Chair John Henderson for a terrific submission and to all club members for their support of the event over many years since 2002.

 

The Kids Fun Run with Thomas is the signature fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Emerald and District, raising more than $671,250 for children’s causes since 2002. The fun run consists of 6 runs on the day; children aged 3–8 years run against Thomas the Tank Engine for the first 5 runs and children aged 9–12 years run against Puffing Billy for the sixth run. In keeping with the fun run’s theme of ‘kids helping kids’, all money raised has been donated to organisations that support children in the local area. The event has grown to be a family fun day, involving local community groups and featuring activities such as rides on Thomas the Tank Engine, a community market, live music performances and entertainment. The event is supported by local businesses and community groups. More than 460 children and their families participated in the 2019 event, with more than 100 volunteers working to make the day a success.

 

I just wanted to say a big thank you for supporting our hamper drive this year.

We focused the hampers on Christmas treats this year and advertised the food
bank, that runs from St Luke's on a Monday, so that families can access
daily staples now and any time throughout the year.

We distributed 70 hampers to families in need in the Cockatoo and Gembrook
area. We are given the names of most families requiring assistance through
the school principles and the local creche.

The hampers included plum pudding, soft drink, custard, shortbread, chips,
biscuits, lollies etc. and a small ham as well as distributing any toys and
gifts that were donated.

The hampers are so appreciated by the families that receive them and it is a
blessing to be able to assist many in our community.

It is only through the help and support of our community partners that this
ministry can take place each year.

So again, thank you for donating. I have attached photos of the hampers
being packed.

Wasnt it just great to get back to face-face meetings this week?  The pub did us proud and it was lovely to see so many Rotarians attending.

• Welcome back – nice to see everyone in person
• Congratulations  PPP PHF Ian Ash - Membership Masterclass facilitator for District  – more info to come during the meeting
• Letter received from Sue -  thank you for supporting hamper drive this year.  70 hampers were distributed in Gembrook & Cockatoo.
• Monbulk – Australia Day Celebration next Tuesday – all are invited to attend.You can zoom into Australia Day celebrations.
• Cardinia Awards – John Henderson will be representing RC of Emerald as the KFRWT is a nominated event for event of the year

• Grade 6 cylinders were well accepted.There will be something in the newspapers in around a week’s time. Decided it was not a good idea to give 2 students in each school a citizenship award so decided to give all Grade 6 something as they have had a difficult COVID year.Would like to continue with Grade 12 next year.
• Last year the music award and Les Smith Award didn’t happen with COVID.Had hoped we could do this at beginning of this year.Checking this out.

• Membership is the biggest issue of the District – volunteered to be on it
• Looking at the information so it is relevant and applicable to those wishing to make a difference on Membership
• 4 sessions for the Masterclass
• Need 3 people to be part of the Masterclass (Kris Ash, Lorna Shaw and Tina McInerney volunteered at the meeting to represent the club so we can attend)

• International – End Polio – holding off so local projects can be given a priority.Helping Tenderfoot and RAMs.

• Notice Board – has been revamped – many thanks to Roy Bowyer and Kerry Champness.
• Welcome to Emerald sign – will be revamped and made to look better

Deb Ball Update

• Incorporating 2020 with 2021 Deb Balls to be held on 20 June
• No idea about numbers
• Shalini Penny working on it this year, Lyn Beckwith and Lorna Shaw will take it on next year
• 15 couples at this point in time – registration closes off at the end of March so time for more to sign up
• COVID implications yet to be determined – still not sure how many people can attend
• Marketing at the school and also interest from Healesville – can take registrants from different schools
• Fundraising is made by family and friends attending

• A3 printing required for T2T Flyer – Gayle Barrot and Barry Plant can assist
• We need to have firm bookings to attend the meeting for the pub in future – please let Lorna know you are attending next week (and from now on).
• Potential to Zoom the guest speaker in future – to be considered by the club. The pub may be happy to allow us to utilise their WiFi.

• Lorna Shaw has offered to assist with Program - thank you
• Thank fundraising committee for the Car Rally work - watch this space - we will re-organise when attendance caps are removed due to COVID
• Thank you to Roy and Ali for offering to hold the Burnt Chop - again we were restricted by numbers so meal was organised at Elevation
