• Given opportunity to speak and present for a few minutes and the projects we are involved with at the ESC – parents often don’t know what we do

• Poppy challenges she faces every day – feeling inept – she did a great job
• First and second were really good, some used notes some didn’t what struck home most – Vicky, Lyn and I had club t-shirts on and people came up to thank Rotary for making it possible.

• We had a very good night – 9 from Emerald, 4 from Belgrave
• Food was mixed
• Those who had gin enjoyed it there was rum as well

Toast to the Elderly - Edna Bennett

I grew up and had always lived in Monbulk. My dad was a very proud man. He was a handy man and remodelled our house to ensure that it was one of the best houses on the main road of Monbulk.

 

Growing up, we weren’t allowed any pets but I was given chooks that we kept for a awhile until they got the chop. My 3 sisters and I had a secret cubby. We secretly kept a cat in the cubby and would feed it every day. It knew not to follow us home

.

After leaving school at 14, my first job was at a flower farm, cutting and bunching flowers for market. I loved working outdoors. I worked at a fruit shop in Belgrave earning 5 shillings and then later worked at the fruit shop in Monbulk for 20 years.

 

My family mean the world to me. My son takes me out regularly on drives and my daughters ensure my wardrobe is filled with nice things to wear. I like sitting outside in the sunshine and I love kookaburras. I use to feed them when I was home. I wish I could see more of them in Emerald.

• Biggest market in terms of number of stalls
• Cupcakes and lemon slice – went like hot cup cakes
• Made $860 getting up there
• In the next few weeks a survey about the market – nearly every member contributing in some way, not just the money but the input and involvement.Working together so bonding for the Rotary club
• Going to other clubs can be enlightening – our club is special
• Christmas Market – Lyre Bird choir will be there
• Need a Father Christmas – volunteers requested!

• Nobody said no to the jobs they have been allocated on the day – thank you!! – 80 volunteers on the day including 501 Star Wars Troop and Monash Medical Centre support – thank you in advance!!!
• Also provided – information and running order of the day so you are aware of what is happening on the day
• 360 registered on line – we get others registering in the last week- on track for 500 kids
• Sold 400 train tickets already – selling an extra train ride on the day
• Raffle - thank you to Kelly or coordinating the raffle – 3 major prizes $700 bike voucher from Bike Superstore, Mitre 10 compressor vacuum, Toot Toot Toys – toy pack.Raffle $500+ so far.
• Big meeting with Puffing Billy on Friday – Gembrook site needs to be prepared for the run.Tarmac on station road on Monday and need to clear all the mounds as these are where the kids are running
• Show bag packing – Next Thursday at the Independent or at Gembrook Station if we can (then a meal at the Independent) $25 per head – let Lorna know to confirm bookings
• Fundraising encouraging children to be fundraisers, going well, always give top 5 fundraisers prizes Bicycle Super Store $400 Puffing Billy 5 x family passes and we need some other prizes as well.If you have something at home that is new and that may be a good prize, please let John know.
• Saturday 3^rd December there is a lot of setting up to do, Marcus will be looking for helpers, more to do this year because of the state of the station.

• Di from Foodshare came a few weeks back – PP PHF Russ Marnock volunteered for a day with the distribution truck 8-5 a full day – it was interesting to see how many were helping with this.It was an eye opener.
