Hi everyone
This week marks 3 months into the 2021-2022 Rotary year and the time has flown, which is amazing considering the bulk of it has been in lockdown.  Past presidents have said that once you reach Christmas the second half of the year flies, so Marcus start planning your Changeover party!

District Governor Daryl Moran and his wife Jenny were our guest speakers this week.  Whilst some of our members were unable to attend there were plenty of us who did, some exceeded the dress code of “bows” and one member went overboard and looked like a suave James Roy Bowyer Bond.

Jenny provided a background to her DG’s Partner project “Days for Girls”, which is a very worthy cause and always looking for financial support. Daryl touched base on how we were travelling and suggested that we investigate options to allow us to continue the year and expand on the activities that are available despite lockdown and ensure that we continue our Hybrid system once we ae back live at The Paradise Hotel. He also proved himself a very good PR Manager for our DG Elect. Ken Miller, who would be looking for support from the Club during his year in the DG chair. Daryl has his own web site and you can view it at: www.dg9810for2021-22.org

It was nice to have AG, Mark Balla also attend Tuesday’s meeting.  Mark is a strong supporter of the Club and has also attended the Storm Recovery/Rescue the Logs meetings along with a couple of people from the two Cluster Clubs.
Following the success last year, the Fundraising team are again putting on an event on Cup Day, Tuesday 2nd November for a Wine Tasting & Gourmet Food pack. Details have been circulated and as orders for consumables will need to be placed in advance, can you please RSVP as soon as possible.

Apart from our own Kids Fun Run with Thomas (KFRWT) and the All American, that are lined up in 2022, there are a few other events for you to “Save the Date”:

  • Sunday 27th February 2022 - Storm Recovery “Hills Thank you day” at Monbulk Reserve – Club manpower will be needed.
  • Friday 25th March via zoom & Saturday 26th live, District 9810 Conference –at Caulfield RC (details to be provided)
  • Thursday 21st July 2022 National Lamington Day.   To be a major fundraiser for Rotary Clubs in Australia. Not sure of our involvement at this stage.

Tina McInerney, the Youth team and generous Club members have done a brilliant job in pulling together items for the Year 12 Care Bags, which sound as though are going to be FULL.  Year 6 bags were in doubt however it is now looking as though they will happen also - well done.  Also, in doubt due to low funds was this year’s RYLA program at Rawson Village 17th – 22nd January. However, Barry Plant Real Estate has a suitable candidate and will kindly sponsor her. Thank you to Justin and Gayle Barrot.

Next Tuesday we will have 2 Speakers – Vanessa Kewish EVER – Emerald Village Exercise & Recreation plus Tina – Protocol.  Should be another interesting evening.

Stay safe & dry - See you all on Tuesday.

Yours in Rotary,
Shalini Penny, President

DG Daryl Moran and Wife Jenny's Visit

Thank you to DG Daryl and wife Jenny for joining our meeting last week - we enjoyed their presentations.

Jenny provided insights into why she chose Days for Girls as her project for the 2021-2022 year.
Unlike girls in Australia, many young women around the world do not have sufficient education about menstruation and in many regions it is taboo, with girls losing days of education.  the organisation commenced in 2008 and the kits they sell are just amazing and last a long time for those who recieve them.

The impact has been amazing -  $2m to 144 different countries since 2008.  The Priority is creating independent chapters that are self-sufficient to build reslience, particularly with our near neighbours in in Rotary Zone 8.
