Dear Esteemed Members,

As the holiday season fills the air with joy and warmth, it's the perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey we've had together this year. Amidst the bustling festivities, I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to each one of you for your unwavering dedication and support that has made our Rotary Club's mission shine brighter than ever.

A special note of appreciation goes out to our Avenue of Services Chair for their remarkable leadership, commitment, and tireless efforts throughout the year. Your dedication to enhancing our community through the various avenues of service has been truly inspiring. From empowering our youth to fostering goodwill across borders, your vision and hard work have made a significant impact, touching countless lives and spreading hope.

Together, we've achieved remarkable milestones and created meaningful change within our community and beyond. Your passion for service and unwavering commitment to Rotary's ideals embody the spirit of the season, making a real difference where it's needed most.

As we gather with our loved ones to celebrate this festive season, let's cherish the moments of togetherness and gratitude. Your contributions, both big and small, have been the driving force behind our collective success, and for that, I am immensely grateful.

May this holiday season be filled with joy, peace, and an abundance of blessings for you and your families. Here's to a new year brimming with opportunities to continue our noble work and make an even greater impact together!

Toast to the Elderly Mal Wilkinson

I entered the world in Margate, England, where my father practiced carpentry. At the age of 9 in 1953, my family and I embarked on a significant journey to Australia, influenced by the persuasive words of uncles and aunts who, after our arrival, returned to England, leaving us to establish ourselves in Australia. We became "10 pound poms" and found our home in Elwood. My formal education concluded at grade 8 when I was just 14, leading me to join the workforce at a grocery store. On my inaugural day, given the responsibility of measuring out sugar, I inadvertently spilled the entire bag. Thankfully, my understanding boss allowed me to retain my job.

Carol and I welcomed four children into the world during our marriage, but our union didn't endure. Affectionately, we referred to her as the "5'kayer" due to her preference for staying within a 5 km radius from home. Despite our parting, we maintained an amicable relationship. I made regular visits to Emerald Glades, where she resided until her unfortunate passing earlier this year.

Subsequently, I shared three decades of my life with the wonderful Marie. Together, we embarked on countless enjoyable caravan trips. Regrettably, Marie has also passed away. Now, also recently coming to reside in the Glades, I find solace, although I do miss my two schnauzers, Albert and Millie. Fortunately, their new owners ensure they visit me regularly.

One of my proudest accomplishments is establishing my own transport and garden supply business. Reflecting on my journey, I offer this advice: savor life to the fullest and embrace honesty at every turn.
