Toast to the Elderly - PP PHF John Ritchie - GERD KLEINDOPFF

I was born in Germany in 1936.  I was a precision mechanic by trade. 

 

I came across to Australia in 1960 where I met my wife Barbara in the office. She was an inspector. She sure inspected me out! I married her in 1968 and had 2 children.

 

We lived not too far away from Emerald Glades where my wife still resides in our family home. I had my own business in Bayswater but after GST arrived, I sold it and retired. I retired in 2002, I spent the rest of my time taking care of the one and a quarter acre property and garden.

 

One of my favourite things to do was to travel. I have travelled across Europe and Australia and love visiting rivers. My goals and dreams are to continue strengthening my body and to be able to walk again and gain back my independence. I would love one day to be able to go home.

 

 

Conference in Canberra – PP PHF DG Ken Miller

• Best conference every been to lots of posting on facebook, lots of emails and phone calls and club newsletters – what a wonderful time they had and Parliament House a once in a lifetime experience.
• Wonderful speakers to listen to.
• Laughter and tears along the way!
• The food was excellent and the RIPPER Lean Jaggs and husband Mike were good fun, part of the team - dressed up as Emerald and had a wow of a time.
• Golf Ball Drop – worked well and was good – RIPPER in bucket on the front end loader.
• Gala Dinner – a success – thank you to the team from Emerald who put it together – it didn’t disappoint.Spangles got sprung at their rehearsal.
• Food was good table decorations looked spectacular – every Rotarian had a good time, the band was fantastic, the Spangles did a great bracket.
• Special thank you to Tina for carrying the first session and doing an amazing job!
• A special thank you to those on the Committee – Gayle said you are going to have the best district conference ever – got there (or if not close)

Committee Chair Reports

• Foot traffic wasn’t great – we had some good stalls
• Gloria has been talking to other clubs about their market
• Vibe at the end – stall holders ‘see you next month’
• Missing 8 of key members but still managed to get it done – team A and team B concept may fly – have a break to some
• $1000 + raised on the day
• We are cautiously optimistic – April and May to go – thank you to everyone
• Weather helps but it was an excellent day
• Marketing Meeting Monday at 5.30 at the Primary School

• Try to bring cluster together with Belgrave and Monbulk – visit their club
• Both club meetings are on a Wednesday night – go along in pairs and let Gus at Belgrave or Helen at Monbulk know you are attending

• 3 volunteers – Gayle, Susi and Shalini going – thank you

• 60 people attending
• We are organising the BBQ’s after the clean up – be there at 11.30 to be ready for 12.30
• Hoping to get 20 members along at 10 am at the Scout Hall
• Strong boots, hat, sunscreen and refillable bottle and wear Rotary shirts

• $50k cheque presentation to Monash Children’s Hospital – Weds 29^th March 1.30 at Monash Children’s Hospital
• Nearly all the sponsors are coming along
• Open invitation to club members – let John know if you are attending

• 13 awards to be given out on the night and looking forward to a great event.

• 590 kms for Australian Rotary Health – in the Bendigo area
• Started training earlier than usual as it is a distance!!
