Hi everyone
There goes another week and it is getting colder and wetter.  The regular meeting attendees braved it to the meeting on Tuesday and the Ash’s had good excuses for connecting via zoom as in ISO plus Ian has a foot in plaster. Along with the guest speaker Lisa Palmer, a Clinical Counsellor & Mental Health social worker (who was excellent) with had a 2nd visit from Christine McLeod and 1st visits for Alayne and Steven Goodwin. (Alayne’s picture was included in last week’s Sparkle, as she won the Easter Pamper pack). Roy Bowyer (celebrating his birthday on 20th) was an excellent Chairperson, threw in a few jokes and ensured that the visitors understood each section of the meeting and felt included. Ian Ash provided a Response via the Hybrid system, which was easy to hear, so we continue to kick goals with our technology.

At the Storm Festival held in Monbulk in February, I realised that a lot of the District Clubs had personalised tents and some had obtained grants to cover the purchase. I learnt that Bendigo Bank was a good starting place to secure a grant to cover the purchase and printing.  I am pleased to say this has now been approved and I am in the process of ordering. Hopefully we should have our new tent by the time we run the June Market.

Dare I report that Emerald Rotary is again in the Star Newspaper this week.  We have a small picture and header line just under the work “Star” on the front cover and the top third of page 7 under the heading “Easter hampers enjoyed”.  Well done Community team pulling together the Easter baskets and eggs project that was delivered to The Glades, Emerald last Thursday. Thank you to Principal Emma and the pupils at Emerald Primary School who were involved with the making and decorating of the baskets.

The next item on our Agenda is Anzac Day.  As mentioned before, Rotary is to march and place a wreath next Monday 25th April.  We will meet up at 10.00am outside the Commonwealth Bank. If you can spare the time, it would be great to have a substantial representation of Rotary.  Wear your Rotary gear and Peter Maloney from the RSL is providing us with a banner.

The next day, Tuesday 26th, instead of our regular meeting we are having Burnt Chop attempt 3 at Roy and Ali’s house. There are 51 members and families attending so should be a lot of fun. Remember to bring either a salad or dessert and $20 to cover the spit roast. It will BYO, however there are 6 bottles of Oyster Bay sparkling Brut to be put to good use, courtesy of the District Conference and our winning fancy dress team.  Address: 23 Nobelius Street. 6.00p.

See you next Tuesday.

Yours in Rotary,  Shalini Penny, President

Toast to the Elderly ...from last week

HILDA GREGSON

I came from England and was born in Yorkshire but my parents moved to Australia when I was only 12 months old where we then lived in Brighton. I had 5 siblings and I was the eldest.  I enjoyed climbing the pear tree in the back yard when I was young girl and playing in my yard with the other kids in my street. I was the top of my class at school and enjoyed learning.

I am good at making others laugh.  I tend to have a joke and make naughty little comments  I enjoy being affectionate and sharing my love in showering others with cuddles but be careful I might just give you a little chase if I like you and try to pinch your behind.

I use to work for Ansett airlines but my greatest achievement was being a mother. I lived in Brighton all my life up until moving into Emerald Glades where I can now live in comfort close to my daughter and son in-law who visit regularly.

On the 24th of March I will be turning 102 years old! I actually don’t believe it and if you ask me, I’ll tell you I’m only 16 as that’s how young I still feel.
