- It is a worldwide organisation beginning in England now been in Australia 40 years in Burwood.Their office is in Canterbury

- TCFV support those in the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling
- This is a peer-support organisation
- 24hour – 7 day a week support help-line (many calls in the wee hours of the night)
- They have a magazine called Grieve, Heal and Grow
- People know about Lifeline and Beyond Blue – Compassionate Friends can assist
- Story of Stephen Purvis – Kevin’s son who committed suicide in 2001
- He was hard to get to school, was an Essendon supporter and they supported him as best they could.In the end Stephen was overwhelmed and took life at 15 years of age
- Kevin and Jenny went to a support group and although a Minister the grief was at a different level
- Grief by suicide support group run by Jenny
- What is grief?A natural response to a significant loss (child, partner, marriage, pet)
- Grief impacts every part of your being – a lot of people withdraw and those around you don’t know what to say to you therefore you can be lonely as community withdraws from you
- Guilt can be experienced too, especially with suicide – what could we have done for example
- TCFV ensures it ‘holds’ people in their time of grief
- Getting over grief isn’t just a simple unidirectional journey – it is very complex with steps forward, backwards and sideways

- Accept the reality of the loss
- Process the pain of grief
- Adjust to the world without the deceased
- Find an enduring connection with the deceased in the midst of embarking on a new life
- Kevin did the Great Victorian Bike Rides with Stephen – 24th April come to Lilydale and ride along the Warburton Trail (the date of Stephen’s death)
- When talking about someone speak their name, remember dates of significance, remove expectations and most of all keep in touch
- Don’t use phrase ‘committed’ suicide – say ‘died’ by suicide, suicided or attempted suicide
Talkin’ It Up – A Mental Health Wellbeing for Youth – PP PHF Gloria Hargreaves
75% of mental health problems happen before the age of 25.With COVID in the picture there are a number of young people not doing too well – lost social and emotional development over the 2 years of COVID
- Committee of 8- Marcus, Ian, Kris, Hita Gloria, Lisa John and Wayne including Monbulk and Belgrave representatives.Lisa Palmer and Hita are experts in the field and their input is valued
- Venue – St Marks – but hybrid to reach a wider audience
- Date 3rd week June or 3rd week in July
- Format – keynote speaker and a panel afterwards with questions from the audience
- Registration – Trybooking to be used and set up once date is set and speakers locked in
- Networking with schools, councils and youth groups – Ian Wakefield heading this up
- Sponsorship – submission for District funding, Cardinia Council (possibly Yarra Ranges), Bendigo Bank, the 3 clubs and Emerald Psychology and Emerald Village Pharmacy
- Promotion – plans are in place!!!

- Friday – extra activities on that day so you can get there earlier – Golf, Lawn Bowls and site-seeing

- Welcome Adam to the Committee
- Gifts to the Emerald Glades were delivered for Christmas
- Hampers x 70 for Christmas were distributed
- The committee is working with Donations in Kind Warehouse W. Footscray – collecting items for the warehouse especially stationary
Fundraising – Pres. Elect Kelly McAllister
- Thank you to all the helpers on Saturday - we raised $1,700 on the day after expenses
- Xmas Raffle – thank you to all we raised $3,386 and the winner was gifting some of the items
- Andrew’s mum in assisted living in S. Africa – reached out to local Rotary Club and within an hour helped him out and his dad has a coffee visitor once a week – the power of Rotary around the world
International – PP PHF Tina McInerney
- We are paying for 3 students at Tenderfoot School in Kenya.RC of Emerald helped start the school many years ago because of Ray Adams who was a District Governor and member of this club (Greg’s dad) – speak to Greg to find out more
- Grant for 4 toilets in Vanuatu in a low-lying area so the water in the area will not be contaminated – a group of clubs put in to this.Engineers Without Borders are doing the installation work.
- $295 to sponsor a child a year
An aside … Our Christmas Party made $400 profit – so we decided to buy Christmas items for those in need locally. Gave it to St Lukes at Cockatoo to distribute.
