Catherine's Conundrums

Down a bit on numbers last week, but definitely not down on the FUN - or competitive spirit - of those who fought it out during PP Ian Ash’s Titillating Trivia Test!!   A vast array of topics and surprises brought out the best in people, with Gayle heard to quote (several times!!), “Is it the truth?!”  ;)   I think we were all winners on the night…just some with more points than others…supposedly.

Ken Miller spoke briefly on the District’s Marketing and Public Image seminar that was (to be) held on Friday.  A couple of members of our Club were presenting at it and it was shaping up to be a very purposeful event.  Ken spoke of the importance of growing membership within the District, and our Club needs to be part of the growth.  District 9810 is only 11 members over the cut off point.  If we lose 11 members across the District, 9810 will be forced to merge with another District or possibly two.  It’s really important that each Rotary member does his or her best to invite and welcome new people to Rotary.  It’s such a great organization, why wouldn’t we want to share?!!?  I challenge you all to find a friend to bring along!  It might just be someone you get talking to in the supermarket, or you might have someone in mind already.  Let’s see what we can do!

This week we welcome the Mayor of  Cardinia Shire, Graeme Moore, to talk to us about his participation in
a Cambodian Fundraising Bike Ride he did in 2013.   Perhaps we’ll be inspired to take part in a bike ride…maybe Ride to Conference next year!!??  Thank you to Ian Ash for organising yet another interesting speaker for us.

The Great Community Raffle Presentation is coming up on Tuesday 27th August.  Please put this in your diary and plan to be there for it.  This is in lieu of a regular Rotary Meeting and it would be terrific for our Club to be there “in force.”  It is usually catered…with food…and wine.   Just saying.

For those of you who have been waiting with baited breath for the answer to last week’s conundrum, here it is!

Nine o’clock.  Since there are twelve hours between the two times, and half of that time equals six, then the halfway mark would have to be seven o’clock.  If it were seven o’clock, two hours ago, the time would now be nine o’clock.  J

And now, for this week!!  A very easy one…

In our calendar some months have 30 days and some months have 31 days.  How many months have 28 days?

Hooroo for now and have a fabulous week!!

Rotary Toast

To Australia and the people of Australia (toast) To Rotary International (toast)

Advance Australia Fair

Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free;

We've golden soil and wealth for toil; Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.

Conundrum Answer:

“Halfway.  Since we have no idea how large the woods are, the distance in actual measurement becomes irrelevant.  At the halfway point the dog will be running OUT of the woods!"
