General Notices
- The Deb Ball is going ahead (finally) on Sat 26 February - congratulations to Pres. Shalini for her sheer tenacity! We are down to 37 couples from the initial 52, but it will be a special night for all concerned and we look forward to making it a night to remember for the debs and their partners.
- The market went ahead on 12 February - the revamped and re-energised version is on its way - keep 12 March free!!!
- All the money from the Disaster Fund has finally been distributed.
Guest Speaker - Stewart Williams from the RC of Forrest Hill - Thailand
Some facts from Stewart's talk are below:
- Thailand my second home been going there for 11 yrs – 21 trips.
- Went there for a dentist originally
- 65 million people (16-19 million in Bangkok)
- Hospital has 42 dental rooms
- Move files with girls on roller skates – Yan He Hosptial
- Water is important in Thailand
- Second largest rice exporter can sometimes get 3 corps a year
- Largest exporter of orchids in the world
- There are a few dinosaurs in Thailand as well
Toast to the Elderly - Margaret
I grew up in Hawthorn. Naturally I was a member of the Hawthorn Football team. I still have football scarfs. I went to Glenferrie State School and then Swinburne and left at age 14. After leaving school at age 14, my first job was at Frankie Stewerts as a bridal dress maker. I later looked after children in residential care for the DHS. After that I worked at a rehab centre that was part of the Epworth hospital in Richmond.
My husband Neil and I were married for about 25 years and have now been divorced for almost the same amount of time. He lives in Tasmania but is still a part of my life and helps out when he is in town.
When I was diagnosed with parkinsons 2014 I got a tattoo on my arm and along my hand of a blue bird sitting in some branches. I would like to complete my tattoo and add another bird so that the bird I have, has a friend. I am going to get this done sometime this year. I love birds! My favourite thing to do is to watch birds. My garden was full of native plants and flowers that attracted many birds that I could enjoy watching all day.
I am only new to Emerald Glades but enjoy the amount of things that I can take part in. My parkinsons has softened my speech so I am also enjoying the social aspect that forces me to speak up and use my voice.
Strategic Plan
Well arent we a corporate bunch! Thanks to the strategic planning committee we are well ahead of where most clubs are with their annotation of direction and planning. PP PHF Ian Ash provide background on why we are doing this and also a great presentation on where we are with it all.
