Guest Speaker - Catherine Eagleston
Catherine Eagleston is the mastermind behind the Clue Detective Puzzle Agency. She has been compiling crosswords and developing word puzzle games for over 20 years. A key benefit of solving puzzles is that stress can be alleviated as this enables puzzlers to engage their brains in a challenging and enjoyable activity that will provide a sense of achievement.
At age 36, she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder which helped explain the bouts of depression that she would suffer from time to time. Her “black cloud” would return on many occasions and although medication helped, she felt that she needed to do something constructive to tackle it. As a result, she applied her skills and knowledge with words to create five books complied by ‘The Clue Detective’ which helped her recovery. Clue Detective books can now be accessed worldwide through any library that holds a valid licence.
Catherine sees this as a form of escapism since all clues need to be researched, and she is always learning something new. She has successfully applied these books to raising awareness of mental health in local communities, a subject she is very passionate about and is the Ambassador for Smile Radio (strong mental health advocates) in the UK. She has also established group get-togethers (including Rotary clubs) to facilitate connectedness and support.
Catherine currently works with two mental health groups in the UK (the ‘Jordan Legacy’ and ‘Batten of Hope’) and continues to be actively involved in Rotary having been a past President of the Rotary Club of Drysdale.

Committee Chair Reports
Gloria talked about the Primary School Speech contest which will be held instead of a Club meeting on Tuesday 24/10 at Emerald Primary School. 12 students will be taking part representing 6 schools. Gloria circulated an attendance sheet requesting to know who plans to be there and preferred job assignments.
Sangeeta invited Kris to report back on ‘Dance for Dementia’ and Kris described how $1500 was raised by a four hour ‘dance-a-thon’ raising funds for ‘Umbrella Dementia’ cafes. This was used as therapy for the first time in the UK and is likely to become a regular here in Australia.
