Highlights 2022-2023
Chair: PP PHF Gayle Barrot - Community Service Chair
Team: PP PHF Emma Clark, Chris McLeod, Kerith Cummins and PP PHF Don Borg
A focus this year for the Club via the Community Service team has been to reconnect with the Emerald Ladies Probus Club. In August I attended their monthly meeting and was warmly welcomed by their President Anne Simpson. I suggested that some of their members attend one of our meetings with a theme of ‘Generations’. We held the Generations meeting at our club meeting on 18th October. At this meeting we had our members, 3 Probus members and four primary school children. We focused on how technology has changed the way we do things and whilst new technology made things faster, there are things from the past that are still very relevant.
In November we donated 60 hams to the Christmas hampers that were put together by St Lukes and St Marks church. These are given to people who are in need and were very well received.
In December we gave 60 small gifts and a handwritten Christmas card to each of the residents at Lifeview Aged Care facility.
We also gave 60 Easter gifts to the residents of Lifeview Aged Care facility in April.
With the cost of living rapidly rising we were made aware of the stress many in our community were under trying to make ends meet. Our club member Suzi said that many of her clients were not able to afford their medication. A donation of $800 was made to Emerald Village Pharmacy to assist those experiencing financial hardship to pay for their medication. Suzi is overseeing the expenditure of these funds ensuring that our money is spent wisely.
We have also reinstated the fuel vouchers to be distributed through St Lukes church. $1000 has been allocated for this purpose.
Throughout the year we have been reminding members to save used stamps and bring them to the meeting for the District collection.
I would like to thank my committee members, Emma Clark, Chris McLeod, Kerith Cummins and Don Borg for their support throughout the year.
