Highlights 2021-2022
I would like to start by thanking my committee members, PP PHF Gayle Barrot, Kelly McAllister, Sangeeta Bajaj and one of our newest members, Hita Mistry for their enthusiasm, tenacity and execution! It wasn’t easy fundraising as we slowly moved out of COVID into some semblance of normality. But we divided and conquered with each member taking on the tasks for each event with a smile and positive attitude.
Some of the fundraising events we had hoped to organise, such as Cocktails on the Catwalk and a 40’s themed evening proved hard to do – we may have been out of lockdown but for the first 6 months of the Rotary year there was still reticence in the community to gather in large numbers, which is totally understandable.
That said we had some success raising $7,253.34 from our budgeted figure of $10,740 Luckily the 7th attempt at running the 2020 Deb Ball succeeded in February 2022 and filled the void and I must acknowledge our President Shalini Penny for her sheer guts and determination in making that wonderful evening happen.
We are grateful for the ongoing support of Alan and Joy at Emerald Village Meats – their kind donation of the sausages for our September, November, April and June sizzles brought in $771.10 in total. Of course, the sizzles are also about public awareness and encouraging passing locals to consider joining the merry band we are here at Emerald & District Rotary Club. Speaking of sizzles, that component of our monthly market raised $671.82 throughout the year.
Given ‘gatherings’ were a difficulty, we organised a Christmas and Easter Raffle that raised $2,214.77 and $1,570.50 respectively. The Deb Ball raffle on 11 June raised a further $426. I would like to acknowledge the support of Woolworths in Emerald for allowing us to ‘camp’ in their foyer to sell tickets over a number of weekends. Thank you also to Barry Plant Emerald, Mitre 10 Emerald, The Bicycle Superstore and Leonie Tippett for their wonder support in donating prizes – without their donations the raffles would not have happened.
Our in-house events also raised some funds … the Cup Day Spectacular in Nobelius Park raised $875 and thanks to Roy and Ali Bowyer the Burnt Chop in April raised an unexpected $419.15. Finally, our Christmas raffle raised $305.
I am delighted to hand over the reins of the Fundraising Committee into the hands of PP PHF Catherine Elfick. I am sure with Catherine at the helm there will be some interesting fundraising events in the coming Rotary year!
