Rotary Golden Hour Cafe
Coming Soon in February 2026!
The Golden Hour Cafe is a Collaboration between the Rotary Club of Emerald & District and Umbrella Dementia Cafes
to provide a cafe in the heart of Emerald that creates
a safe, welcoming and supportive social environment for those in our community experiencing dementia and their carers
Our cafe members are at the centre of everything we do and we apply a tri-fold approach to our service delivery:
- Help the person with dementia stay socially connected,
- Help the care-partner stay connected to their loved one with dementia,
- Help both stay socially connected to their community.
To achieve this, our volunteers and the Umbrella Dementia Cafe team focuses on knowing what brings our members joy, connection and personal fulfilment. Our café team is trained and empowered to create activities that foster feelings of independence and belonging.
All family of our registered members are welcome to visit the café too and participate in the activities. We know from experience, an informed and cohesive family support unit is crucial for resilience and making future care decisions.

The Rotary Club of Emerald and District was Chartered on the 28th March 1980 and has a proud history of supporting both the local community and international projects.
The Rotary Golden Hour Café will sit under the overall direction of the Board and Umbrella Dementia Cafes.
The current focus of the Rotary Club is “We All Belong” in order to build connected, resilient communities. This theme was chosen to particularly address social isolation in the hills community and create avenues for local residents to volunteer and become connected.
The Rotary Golden Hour Café project is strongly aligned with the goal to connect individuals in the community.

Umbrella Dementia Cafés Ltd is a Company Limited by Guarantee Not for Profit Health Promotion charity with DGR endorsement and is GST registered. On 20th September 2018 UDC became a registered charity under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission.
The organisation is managed by a volunteer board and the Founder and CEO, Kirsty Porter is also a Board Member.
